About The Course

If you've never opened Substance Designer then this course is for you. When you learn a new skill, it is vital that you build a solid and strong foundation. This course will take you through a non-typical introduction to Substance Designer that will help you build your skills in the right way early on.

Course Overview

First you start with the basics, then you build your skills up from there.

    You will begin by taking small steps and creating some basic patterns. As you advance in the course you will learn more complex and sophisticated techniques to bring your materials to life.

  • Plenty of Practice

    In this course you will have many opportunities to try out the newly acquired skillset you are learning. At the end of the course, we've included an exercise chapter that will familiarize you with creating any shape imaginable.

  • Present your work

    At the end of this course you will learn how to present your work and create a stunning portfolio piece. This process will also help you to understand Marmoset Toolbag 3 and some of the advanced settings required to create an impressive portfolio render.

  • Students are required to have completed the Beginner Series.

  • SKILLS LEVEL: Intermediate

  • Substance Designer is required to complete the lessons.

  • The rendering chapter at the end requires Marmoset Toolbag.

Daniel Thiger

With 15 years of experience in the gaming industry at Dice and Bungie, Daniel specializes in material, texture, and asset creation. He is passionate about anything procedural, and spends most of his spare time experimenting in Substance Designer. He collaborated with Allegorithmic on their Signature Series project, and served as a speaker at GDC 2018. His workflow and techniques can be found in 3D Artist, 80lvl, Substance, and Marmoset Toolbag. He offers tutorials teaching the community how to learn Substance Designer from the ground up.
